CHINOISERIE STYLE

Note from Daneen: I love “chinoiserie style,” so you will always find it making its way into Nest. The term chinoiserie, which comes from the French word chinois, or “Chinese,” denotes that chinoiserie did not come directly from Asia, but is instead a European interpretation of Asian culture and decorative arts that originated in the 17th century in tandem with Europe’s flourishing trade with China and other countries of East Asia. Elements like pagodas, Foo dogs and dragons are commonly found on fabrics and as decorative accessories, while lacquered wood, faux bamboo, porcelains and ceramics embody classic chinoiserie style. Chinoiserie lends itself beautifully to traditional and modern interiors and is truly timeless.
